The fastest, most agile and most responsive Land Rover ever has been launched by Jaguar Land Rover (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, the exclusive importer of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles in Malaysia. Built on the flagship Range Rover’s chassis and featuring state-of-the-art, lightweight aluminium monocoque platform, the Range Rover Sport sits a rung lower than the Range Rover but despite that still offers transformational on-road dynamics with the world’s best all-terrain performance which provides unrivalled breadth of capabilities.

.

According to Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia managing director Syed Mudzhar Syed Ali, the launch of the all-new Range Rover Sport meant that the company now offered the complete portfolio of the latest Range Rover products. “The new Range Rover Sport occupies a unique position within its segment.  It sits firmly at the heart of the marque’s striking new three-model premium portfolio between the highly-acclaimed new Range Rover flagship and the best-selling Range Rover Evoque,” he said.

Assertive, bold and streamlined, the Range Rover Sport, like the flagship commands such distinction, to be seen driving one is a mark of class and sophistication. Since its introduction in 2005, 380,000 units has been sold to date, making it one of the marque’s most popular models.

The all-new Range Rover Sport may look like a typical Range Rover but is different from the non-Sport in the sense it has a slightly wider track and shorter overhangs which translates to better handling, hence the ‘Sport’ monicker. Aiding its more than able road holding abilities is an advanced aluminium body with new light weight front and rear suspension, reducing the vehicle’s weight by 420kg compared to its predecessor. Torque Vectoring does a fantastic job at keeping it glued to the ground when cornering while the Terrain Response 2 system automatically recognises and optimises the car’s performance according to the driving conditions, regardless on or off-road. Also with its ‘faster’ windscreen angle, streamlined profile and sloping roofline, the new Range Rover Sport is eight percent more aerodynamic than the previous model and achieves a drag figure of Cd 0.34.

The new Range Rover Sport is just 62 mm longer than its predecessor, yet at 4850 mm, it is shorter than other 7-seater SUVs and most E segment sedans, bringing greater manoeuvrability and ease of parking. Despite that, it still boasts a significantly longer wheelbase than before (an increase of 178 mm) which in turn provides greater room and improved access for rear passengers. The flexibility of the Range Rover Sport is made even more appealing with a 5+2 seating option, although this will remove the space for the spare tires)

.

.

Inside the new Range Rover Sport cabin, it’s breathtaking opulence. Designed as a modern interpretation of how a luxury SUV should look like within, those sitting inside will find little to fault in terms of quality contrasted with its Land Rover capabilities. Packed with smart, relevant technologies to ensure that drivers enjoy a relaxed and stress-free experience behind the wheel, you get an advanced Meridian sound system, rear seat touchscreens and a full-size sliding panoramic roof, all depending on the options you pick, of course.

.

In the words of Nick Rogers, Vehicle Line Director, Range Rover, “From the very first moment you climb aboard it is immediately obvious that the Range Rover Sport has gotten better in every aspect. It is apparent from the outset how much weight we have removed and that lends a special character to the car in terms of incredible dynamics.”
