There’s a new Swift in town and it’s quite a looker. The Swift RS was introduced by Suzuki Malaysia Automobile Sdn Bhd (SMA) market today and in the hierarchy of the Swift family sits in between the regular Swift GLX and Swift Sports. Essentially a dressed-up regular Swift, the RS (which stands for Reinvent Style instead of Rally Sport) shares the same power train. It features a black and red gradient rooftop (looks like those heat-sensitive-paint-changing Hot Wheels model), side body decal, stylish red lining on the body-kit with an additional back spoiler, LED Day-Running-Light, 16-inch ‘gun metallic’ aluminium-alloy wheels and the RS emblem. You can have it any color you want – as long as it’s Superior White.

In line with Suzuki’s brand philosophy of delivering excitement, the Swift RS brings stand-out style to Malaysian streets and appeals to youthful drivers wishing to reflect their vibrant personality in their car’s appearance,” said Mr. Keiichi Suzuki, Managing Director of Suzuki Malaysia Automobile Sdn Bhd.

At its heart you’ll find the same 1.4litre DOHC VVT MPI petrol engine paired to a 4-speed automatic gearbox. No revision is made to the power which remains at 95PS @ 6,000rpm and torque of 130Nm @ 4,000rpm. Traditionally in a Japanese vs Japanese competition, Swifts has always been pitted against the Honda Jazz and I’ve always found the handling aspect of the Swift to be better, with it running on MacPherson struts with coil springs in front and torsion beam with coil springs behind. Tires are still 16″ but you get those really cool looking gun-metal aluminium alloy wheels that looks more expensive than the price difference between the RS and the GLX.

The interior is where you’ll find the other half of why you’re paying more for the Swift RS. Looking all sporty and fresh with black and red leather seats with Alcantara fabric in the middle and red stripe side-door trims, Ms. R.S Suzie would always remind you that you’re in something a bit more special. She’ll also keep you entertained with a 2-Din touch-screen audio system with reverse camera, Bluetooth system with microphone, Garmin GPS navigation and True Mirroring with Smart phone* (*additional items required).

.

Being such a popular model with the younger Malaysian market, we have customised the Swift to suit the latest trends – with a pop of colour, sporty features and new technology,” added Mr. Keiichi.

Standard items carried over from the GLX worthy of highlighting are  LCD display dashboard, telescopic steering wheel, keyless transmitter and push-start system and SRS airbags.

.

The Swift RS is yours for the asking price of RM 79,388.00 – On The Road (OTR) without insurance for Peninsular Malaysia, RM 85,140.00 for Sarawak and RM85,124.00 for Sabah. The Swift RS comes with 3 years warranty or 100,000km (whichever comes first), with the exception of the RS rooftop sticker, which has a 2-year warranty (as given by 3M, the source of the sticker). Check it out at the latest Suzuki showroom.
