Kuala Lumpur, 14 January 2015 – Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, riding on a wave of phenomenal results, charted a 17 per cent year-on-year increase in sales of 9,419 units. Aided by a strong 2014 fourth-quarter result of 46 per cent growth, the surge was driven by consistent sales of over 900 units monthly.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s double digit sales increase was led by annual retail volumes from the passenger car segment. Sales of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars rose 29 per cent to 6,932 units from 5,388 units in 2013.

Mercedes-Benz Cars registered bread and butter models, namely C-, E-, and S-Class totalled 4,575 units cumulatively, an 11 per cent increase compared to 2013. Mercedes-Benz’s flagship S-Class redefined the luxury benchmark with its all-new generation model, launched in March 2014. Representing a ‘vision accomplished’ for Mercedes-Benz, the S-Class posted phenomenal sales of 635 units, surging 388 per cent since 2013.

Completing the New Generation Compact Car (NGCC) family were the CLA and GLA. Newly launched in 2014, both contributed 2,322 units to sales growth, a near 100 per cent jump from the previous year.

“This past year has been incredible for Mercedes-Benz Malaysia in every way. We saw record sales, especially in the passenger car segment. We flexed our muscles across the entire product line with the NGCC portfolio and brought customer experience to an all-time high,” said Mercedes-Benz Malaysia President and CEO, Roland Folger.

Mirroring the uptrend was Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles which presented a 23 per cent growth, registering 199 units from fleet deals with Interway Transport Sdn Bhd, Hexagon Highs Transport Sdn Bhd, Swift Haulage Sdn Bhd and many others. FUSO rounded off 2014 with sustainable sales of above 2,000 units in 2014 following its final delivery to SWM Environment Sdn Bhd.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia also achieved several milestones in its dealer network, including the expansion into the Southern Klang Valley with launch of the RM60 million Hap Seng Star Balakong Autohaus. Determined to further enrich customer experience, Hap Seng Star Kinrara Autohaus underwent a RM10 million upgrade in 2014 to offer a total solutions service under one roof.

Aside from investments to further boost its dealer network, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia continued its support for the nation’s aspirations in becoming an energy-efficient vehicle (EEV) hub with a RM15 million investment in its Pekan production plant. The investments readied its assembly line for the S400L Hybrid which received full duty exemptions following its launch in March 2014.

Other key Mercedes-Benz Malaysia highlights included the 30-year celebration of its Apprentice Training Centre and crowning of its Skills Competition winner in October 2014. Speaking on the importance of talent development, Folger said, “Human asset development is an investment, from mechanics to employees here at our headquarters. We invest to ensure that our customers receive the best possible service.”  In 2014 Mercedes-Benz Malaysia was recognised as one of the best companies to work for in Asia.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia also took part in other activities in 2014 which spurred inspiration, a passion for innovation, and safety. Part of this included the Mercedes-Benz STYLO Fashion Grand Prix 2014, the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac) Short + Sweet Malaysia film festival and the Laureus World Sports Awards. Throughout 2014, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia also carried out its Road To Accident-Free initiative via MobileKids, an age-appropriate and fun activity to champion road safety.

Looking forward to 2015, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is committed to ensuring that its customers have the best possible experience. “As a member of the Daimler group, we will ensure that targets will surpass what we have achieved thus far. With the help of our dealer partners and entire organisation behind us, we believe that this beautifully choreographed series of events in 2014 will lead us to another phenomenal year in 2015,” concluded Folger.
