The new CX-3 Freestyle crossover SUV was developed to “Create the standard for the next era.” It’s a vehicle designed to meet the needs of a new generation of car buyers, supporting creative and adventurous lifestyles. More than merely power and speed, the CX-3 is about delivering ease of handling on city streets, reassuring confidence on the highway and, in particular, faithful response when negotiating curving roads.
Design
The fifth model in Mazda’s line-up of new-generation vehicles to feature the full suite of the design, the CX-3 adopts the KODO — Soul of Motion design language and full range of SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY.
The Mazda CX-3 comes with sun roof and 18 inch sports rim. Measuring 4,275mm in length, 1,765mm in width and 1,535mm in height, it is slightly smaller in dimensions compared the Honda HR-V
The CX-3 is stylishly distinctive, yet retains the strong Mazda look. It is a vehicle that carries itself with style, with a long hood, short overhangs, large wheels and a slim cabin, presenting proportions that lend themselves to a sense of strength and vitality, conveying a sense of motion even when standing still.
Performance
Powering the CX-3 is the 2.0litre SKYACTIV-G capable of delivering 154HP @ 6,000rpm and a maximum torque of 204Nm @ 2,800rpm, the same found on the Mazda 3.
Ride and Handling
Paired to the 2.0l SKYACTIV is the SKYACTIV-DRIVE 6-speed automatic gearbox and the steering is electronic power assisted (EPAS)
Cabin Convenience
True to Mazda’s focus in delivering quality craftsmanship, every single detail, from the metallic finished parts to the leather trip in the CX-3 is a work of art. For example, the designers poured through dozens of red leather of different hues before coming to this darker red that contrasts best with the other materials in the cabin. The dashboard and door panels are deliberately made to resemble a continuity of the exterior bonnet and the stitching is meticulously measured to ensure consistency. It is as what we would expect from a CBU unit imported from Mazda’s Hiroshima plant in Japan.
For ports, you get 2 USBs, one AUX-in, 12V and an SD port below the air conditioning controls.
The CX-3 also features the MZD Connect which provides information for entertainment and convenience such as audio, handsfree telephony and other settings via a 7″ centre display. The Commander control which managed the MZD Connect is located next to the handbrake for easy, eyes-free operation.
The CX-3 also offers Active Driving Display (Heads-up Display Unit) and seat materials are leather suede with red stitching
Being a compact SUV/crossover, boot space isn’t as big as the CX-5 or full sized sedans but from the pictures above, it’s perfect for small families/couples.
