Selangor, 22nd April 2016 – MINI Malaysia today unveiled the New MINI Clubman, the newest member to the MINI family. Offering a unique combination of driving fun, premium charisma, functionality as well as MINI style individuality, the New MINI Clubman was introduced in the variants of the New MINI Cooper Clubman and MINI Cooper S Clubman.

Introducing the New MINI Clubman, Mr. Han Sang Yun, Managing Director and CEO of BMW Group Malaysia said, “The New MINI Clubman creates a new chapter in the story of MINI. The new car revolutionises the brand, taking the MINI appeal a notch higher with current trendsetters and drives the creative class social segment.”

Han added that the MINI brand has been growing steadily and the New MINI Clubman will continue to set the tone for the brand’s performance in the country. Up until the month of March, a total of 197 MINI vehicles have been delivered, marking an increase of 38% as compared to the same period in 2015 (143).

The New MINI Clubman is the only six-door vehicle in its segment and its much-loved signature design feature – its split rear doors – are retained, while accessibility and everyday usability are further enhanced with four full-sized side doors and five fully-fledged seats. Along with the versatile interior, the New MINI Clubman meets all the requirements of the compact class in terms of functionality in its own unconventional way.

Design: a great first impression.

BMW 02 (1)

The matured character of the New MINI Clubman is reflected in the dimensions that are significantly larger than the predecessor model. Its distinctive body concept is a result of a powerful fusion of sleek lines and a sweeping silhouette.

With a more sophisticated design, the New MINI Clubman now has a length of 4,253mm, a width of 1,800mm and a height of 1,441mm. Its distinctive proportions is also made up of a wheelbase that measures 2,670mm, while the track width is 1,564mm at the front and 1,565mm at the rear. Indeed, the MINI Clubman clearly accentuates its status as the largest representative of the new MINI generation.

The New MINI Clubman’s stretched silhouette and distinctive proportions are more than just a sight to behold. The new Air Curtains which channel air around the wheels and into Air Breathers behind the front wheel arches, a first in a MINI, would additionally help reduce drag and create a smoother, more efficient ride.

Along with four side doors and a shoulder contour that emphasises the car’s width, the New MINI Clubman also carries split rear doors, which are one of the most striking features of the new vehicle. On it is a central bar positioned between the glass sections of the two side-opening doors, and is visibly narrower than the predecessor’s to optimize the driver’s view to the rear. The rear of the New MINI Clubman also dons newly designed horizontal rear lights.

Another prominent feature of the New MINI Clubman is the projection of the MINI logo onto the ground from a light source housed in the exterior mirror on the driver’s side. This warm welcome which appears everytime the driver unlocks or locks the car will last for 20 seconds each time.

The New MINI Clubman offers LED headlights and LED fog lights.  In terms of wheel  options, the MINI Cooper variant offers 17” Net Spoke Silver light alloy wheels while the MINI Cooper S variant offers 18” Star Spoke Black light alloy wheels. Both variants are equipped with run-flat tyres.

MINI Cooper S Clubman: 228km/h

MINI Cooper Clubman: 5.4litres/100km
MINI Cooper S Clubman: 5.9litres/100km

The 4-cylinder engine in the MINI Cooper S Clubman is coupled with an 8-speed Steptronic Transmission, also another MINI premiere, that ensures an even more favourable basis for efficient, comfortable and sporty driving. This is made possible with a broader gear spread and smaller engine speed steps. The shorter shift times can also be operated by means of paddle shifters at the steering wheel. With that, driving performance is maximised by merging the convenience of automatic driving with the thrill of manual shifting.

A New Dimension of Go-Kart Feeling: MINI Driving Modes and MINI Suspension Technology.

The MINI Driving Modes, meanwhile, are activated by means of a rotary switch at the base of the gear or selector lever. In addition to the standard MID mode there is a choice of SPORT and GREEN mode. In SPORT mode, the accelerator pedal characteristic curve and steering are switched to a sporty set-up, as are the shift times in cars fitted with Steptronic transmission. In GREEN mode, a more relaxed and also more fuel-efficient driving style is supported by intelligent control of energy and climate management as well as by means of systems such as shift point display.

With the 8-Speed Steptronic transmission, it is also possible to use the coasting function. The drivetrain is decoupled at speeds of between 50 and 160 km/h as soon as the driver’s foot is removed from the accelerator pedal. The new MINI Clubman then rolls at idling engine speed with a minimum rate of fuel consumption.

Courtesy of the combination of a single joint strut axle at the front with a multilink rear axle and a model-specific interpretation of this structure, the new MINI Clubman has suspension technology that is very sophisticated for the premium compact segment. In conjunction with the power transmission to the front wheels and the low centre of gravity, this construction principle provides the perfect basis for the agile handling known as the go-kart feeling. Electromechanical power steering including speed-related steering assistance as standard also contributes to the car’s precise driving properties. The dampers are also decoupled at the front and rear axle by means of triple-path support bearings.

Safety

In addition to the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Cornering Brake Control (CBC) and the Brake Assistant, the standard driving stability control system Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) also includes a drive-off assistant, a brake dry function, Fading Brake Support and DTC mode (Dynamic Traction Control), which permits controlled slip so as to facilitate driving on wet and slippery surfaces.

When the driving stability system is deactivated (DSC Off mode), there is an electronic locking function for the front axle differential known as the Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC) which selectively and appropriately brakes a spinning drive wheel on tight corners, redirecting the drive torque to the other wheel. As a standard feature in the MINI Cooper S Clubman, Performance Control supports agile steering for dynamic cornering prior to reaching the threshold level.

Interior: Space Reinvented.

The salient features of the New MINI Clubman as it advances into the premium compact segment are the five fully-fledged seats, convenient access, plenty of freedom to move for all occupants, and a versatile luggage compartment. Its matured character is also reflected in high-quality materials and finish quality as well as new features in the areas of space, controls and connectivity.

Taking on a more sophisticated and high-quality form in the New MINI Clubman is the exceptionally wide instrument panel with cockpit facia frame.  This design feature is also harmoniously integrated on the door trim panels and centre console. Below the air outlets is also a horizontal decorative strip which lends additional emphasis to the width of the interior.

The interior of the New MINI Clubman also continues to offer features that appear in a MINI for the first time for increased driving fun, comfort and safety. These include the electric parking brake in place of a bulky handbrake lever, where the driver need simply press a button to activate the new function. This leaves more room for comfort and a plush armrest. The New MINI Clubman is also equipped with a 2-zone automatic air conditioning and an interior rear view mirror with automatic anti-dazzle function.

In addition to that, the New MINI Cooper S Clubman is also fitted with the electric seat adjustment feature with memory function which allows the driver to keep record of his or her preferred seating position. The seat also includes lumbar support for maximum comfort. Another new feature that is unique to the New MINI Clubman is the Comfort Access with easy opener function. This features a foot-activated sensor to open the split rear doors without having to press any button, thus providing absolute convenience when one’s hands are full.

Further to that, the interior offering of the MINI Cooper variant includes Cloth Firework Carbon Black upholstery with Hazy Grey interior surfacing and a Chrome Line interior as well as a sports leather steering wheel. The MINI Cooper S variant meanwhile offers Piano Black interior surfacing with Leather Cross Punch in Pure Burgundy upholstery, as well as John Cooper Works leather steering wheel with paddle shifters.

In terms of space, the New MINI Clubman is equipped with many storage facilities to reflect its functional character and long-distance suitability. This includes a large glove compartment, storage compartments in the split doors and door pockets which can hold one-litre drink bottles. When all five seats are in used, the luggage compartment has a volume of 360 litres. A 40:20:40 rear seat split is also available to allow the load volume to be increased up to 1,250 litres.

The areas of infotainment, communication and driving experience meanwhile, is further enhanced with MINI Connected which offers an extensive integration of smartphones in the car.

With Spotify for example, the driver and passengers can be entertained with over 20 million songs. All the driving action can be captured by controlling the GoPro cameras directly from the car’s cockpit. These apps among others, can be downloaded from the App Store to view on the MINI display and accessed easily via the car’s controls.
